Otakyun! 2016
Otakyun! (OK) 2016 was held on December 3-4, 2016 from 11am to 6pm at VivaCity Megamall, Kuching where the event drew in more than 1,500 people of all ages. The theme chosen for the yearly event was Virtual Reality (VR). The event showcased booths from talented artists selling their artwork to exhibitors showing off their special collections. A special car with stickers (known as Itasha) was loaned by the owner as an exhibit at the venue for the entire 2-day event. There were also booths for widely recognised card games and game enthusiasts to take part in the activities.
Visitors who wanted a rest were invited into Petit Etoile, OK’s very own Maid Café. Mimicking the popularly themed cafés in Japan, Petit Etoile served food, desserts and friendly smiles on the beautiful maids’ faces – giving guests a warm full feeling in their stomachs and hearts.
One of the highlights for the event were definitely the special cosplay guests who are internationally renowned cosplayers Miu and Shine.
Miu is a Vietnamese cosplayer who previously travelled to Thailand, Philippines, Singapore, Japan and Indonesia as a special guest and to judge several of the ACG’s cosplay competition. Shine hails from Malaysia and started cosplaying in 2009. She has taken part in events in Malaysia as well as took part in cosplay competitions representing Malaysia in Japan and Indonesia.
Fans of Shine were thrilled to be able to learn from her during her makeup workshop. Joining the workshop wasn’t the only thing which fans got to experience as they were also able to join the meet and greet session where they could get Miu and Shine to autograph on their own merchandise as well as snap a photo with these cosplayers as a memento.
The stage was packed with activities such as performances, lucky draw giveaways and cosplay competitions for individuals as well as group cosplayers.
